Joy can mean different things to different people. For a believer, our joy comes from The Lord. We should not be overwhelmed by difficult circumstances because "the joy of The Lord is our strength," it's found deep within. It is an ongoing state of knowing that whatever we may face, we can stand on His promises, one of which is, "He will never leave us nor forsake us". (Deuteronomy 31:8.) This kind of joy comes from knowing who is in control and we are at peace because we can lay everything at His feet.
I remember when I was growing up my mom would say "Lord take the case and give me the pillow" whenever a situation arose that she thought she couldn't handle. This means we need to be still. We need to rest knowing God has everything under His control and always will.
